How much does acupuncture cost in NYC?
In Manhattan, private acupuncture practices typically charge about $120 to $250 for a first visit and $90 to $200 for follow-ups. Community clinics cost less but treat several people in one room. Our fees sit in the middle of that range for private, one-on-one care with a Doctor of Acupuncture: $185 for a 90-minute first visit and $140 for a 60-minute follow-up, with cupping, electroacupuncture and heat included when they help.
Does insurance cover acupuncture?
Often, partly. We are an out-of-network provider, so you pay at the visit and we give you a superbill, an itemized receipt with the diagnosis and procedure codes your insurer needs. Many PPO plans from Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare/Oxford, Empire BlueCross BlueShield and others reimburse part of the fee once your out-of-network deductible is met. HMO and EPO plans usually do not cover out-of-network care.
When you call your insurer, ask: “Do I have out-of-network acupuncture benefits? What is my deductible, how much is reimbursed, and how many visits are covered per year?” Or share your member ID when you request a visit and we will check for you.
HSA and FSA
Acupuncture for a medical condition is an eligible expense for health savings and flexible spending accounts, so you can pay with your HSA or FSA card. Cosmetic facial acupuncture is not eligible.
Packages
If your plan includes several weeks of treatment, prepaid packages lower the cost: five follow-ups for $650 (save $50) or ten for $1,250 (save $150), valid for six months. The facial acupuncture series of 10 is $1,800 (save $200), valid for four months.
