FAQ
Acupuncture questions, answered
Straight answers to the questions new patients ask most. For costs and insurance, see pricing & insurance.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a component of Chinese medicine in which very thin, sterile needles are placed at specific points on the body to relieve pain, reduce stress and support healthy function.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel little or nothing as the needles go in. You may feel a dull ache, warmth or tingling at a point, which usually fades into deep relaxation.
Are the needles clean?
Yes. We use only sterile, single-use, disposable needles that are discarded in a sharps container after one use.
How many treatments will I need?
It depends on the condition and how long you have had it. Acute problems often improve in 3–6 sessions; chronic conditions typically take 8–12 sessions.
What should I do after treatment?
Drink water, eat normally, and avoid intense exercise, alcohol and very hot showers for the rest of the day. Note any changes before your next visit.
Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
Yes, when performed by a trained practitioner. Certain points are avoided in pregnancy, so always tell us if you are or might be pregnant.
Can children have acupuncture?
Teens are welcome with a parent's consent. For younger children, call to discuss gentle needle-free options.
Do you accept insurance?
We are out-of-network. We provide superbills for reimbursement and accept HSA and FSA cards.
Do you speak Russian?
Yes. Dr. Iskhakov sees patients in English and Russian.
Where are you located?
25 W 45th St, Suite 507, New York, NY 10036, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in Midtown Manhattan, near Bryant Park and Grand Central.
What is a D.Ac.?
D.Ac. stands for Doctor of Acupuncture, a doctoral-level degree in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Dr. Iskhakov is also licensed to practice acupuncture in New York State.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 24 hours' notice. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full fee.
