Why men try acupuncture
Many men book acupuncture first for a sore back, a stiff neck or a sports injury, then find it also helps with sleep, stress and energy. Treatment is discreet, and you decide what you want to discuss.
What we treat
- Work stress, burnout and irritability
- Trouble sleeping and low energy
- Erectile dysfunction and low libido, alongside your urologist
- Chronic prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS)
- Male fertility: sperm count, motility and morphology
- Back, neck and joint pain and recovery from training
The evidence
A large randomized trial published in JAMA in 2021 found acupuncture reduced symptoms of chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome more than sham treatment, with benefits lasting months after treatment ended. Research on erectile dysfunction and sperm quality is smaller but encouraging. We will tell you what is realistic for your situation.
What a visit looks like
The first visit takes about 90 minutes: a straightforward conversation about what is bothering you, your health history, sleep, stress and training, then tongue and pulse diagnosis and treatment. For pelvic pain and sexual health, points are mainly on the lower back, abdomen, legs and ears, and you stay covered throughout. Many men find the rest period the most relaxing hour of their week.
A typical plan
Weekly sessions for six to eight weeks, then maintenance. For male fertility, plan on about 12 weeks, because sperm take roughly three months to develop. Lunch-hour and evening appointments make it easy to keep a regular schedule.
Cost and insurance
Treatment starts at $185 (first visit, about 90 minutes). Follow-up acupuncture is $140 for about 60 minutes, with cupping or electroacupuncture included when needed, and packages lower the per-visit cost. We are an out-of-network provider: you pay at each visit and receive a superbill to submit to your insurer, and many PPO plans reimburse part of the fee. HSA and FSA cards are accepted. See every fee on pricing & insurance.
When to see a doctor first
See a physician first for new urinary symptoms, blood in your urine or semen, testicular pain or a lump, or fever with pelvic pain.
